A victim fired shots in the air after he was robbed at gunpoint in the Gaffney Walmart parking lot Monday morning, according to the incident report provided by the Gaffney Police Department.
Larry Reel, 74, of Iron Station, NC, reported that at 9:30 a.m. a person approached him in the parking lot and put a pistol to his head and demanded money.
The suspect then grabbed his wallet and ran.
"All the sudden he grabbed me around the head and sticks a gun right behind my ear and says 'If you move I'll kill you,'" said Reel.
According to the report, the victim said he fired two shots from his pistol in the air in the direction of the suspect.
"I pulled out my pistol and I couldn't shoot straight on account of the parking lot. I just shot up in the air to keep from hitting anybody," Reel said. "I just wanted to let him know that I was there and that if he came back he could get it."
Reel's gun was confiscated, a routine procedure when it is fired during a robbery. He said Gaffney police would return it this week.
The suspect is still at large. Anyone with information should contact 23-CRIME.
