COLUMBUS, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A chase that went through at three counties in Western North Carolina ended in a crash in Polk County on Highway 74 near Columbus on Monday.

The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office said deputies were conducting an undercover methamphetamine buy from 28-year-old Jason Lowery, which led to them learning he had a large quantity of meth in the vehicle.

After he bought the meth, deputies attempted to pull over Lowery's vehicle when he sped off and deputies gave chase, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.

The chase went into Rutherford County on Highway 74 West and ended when Lowery lost control while trying to avoid stop sticks and wrecked in Polk County, according to North Carolina troopers.

Both Lowery and a female passenger were airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Hospital.

According to the sheriff's office, during surgery, doctors located approximately 19 grams of meth hidden in a body cavity of the female.

Lowery is listed in stable condition and the female is listed in critical condition, according to deputies.

"It is unfortunate that Mr. Lowery and his passenger were injured during their wreck. Mr. Lowery apparently did not take his safety, the safety of his passenger, or the safety of the motoring public into consideration when he chose not to stop for law enforcement," Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman said in a press release.

Deputies said the meth seized had a street value of over $2,000.

The sheriff's office said arrest warrants have been secured for the charges of possession with intent to sell methamphetamine, sell/deliver methamphetamine, felony speed to elude police, careless and reckless driving, driving while license revoked, fictitious registration plate and left of center.

They said additional criminal charges could be filed.
