The Atlanta Fire Department had a tough time knocking down flames at a mansion that caught fire in northwest Atlanta.
The fire broke out at 2789 Habersham Rd. in Buckhead just after 6 p.m.
Crews said that because the water main in the neighborhood is older, it was difficult to get a lot of water flowing to keep up with the massive amount of flames spreading through the home.
"When a fire is fully involved in a home this size it requires a lot of water to extinguish these fires," Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran said. "They hydrants were not an issue, it is the size of the water main."
The neighborhood is located in an historic part of Buckhead. Most of the homes are worth millions of dollars. According to multiple real estate websites, this home was worth more than $3 million.
No one was home when the fire started. Investigators have not released a cause.
CBS46 Chopper was over the scene for hours as crews battled the blaze.
