MARION, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A man who has been on the run for 8 months in a robbery and assault in Marion was arrested last week when he returned to the area, the McDowell County Sheriff's Office announced on Tuesday.

Deputies arrested 31-year-old Jeffery Waycaster on March 28 in connection with the incident that happened on June 27, 2013.

According to the sheriff's office, the victim reported a man, later identified as Waycaster, came to his home at 12:30 p.m., put his hands around his neck and dragged him into another room.

Waycaster allegedly threatened the man and then stole a locker safe containing cash, deputies said.

He had been on the run since.

Detectives said Waycaster returned to town last week and the sheriff' office received tips about his location, which led to his arrest.

Waycaster has been charged with felony common law robbery, felony safecracking, felony larceny, felony breaking and entering and misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury.
