SC has no consistent computer security plan

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) -

Officials have told lawmakers that South Carolina has no consistent plan for computer security among state agencies, more than a year after the state's revenue department was hacked.

The State newspaper reported some senators said Tuesday they want to make cyber-security mandatory for state agencies.

Columbia Sen. Joel Lourie says the process has not moved as quickly as it should, after financial information for more than six million taxpayers was taken in 2012.

Anderson Sen. Kevin Bryant says all state agencies should either use standards set by the Budget and Control Board or provide proof that they have accepted security prices.

Budget and Control Board director Marcia Adams told senators she doesn't know how many agencies are using available computer security measures.
