GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police said they are investigating a hit-and-run after a car ran onto a sidewalk, striking and dragging a pedestrian in downtown Greenville early Wednesday morning.

Greenville police spokesperson Johnathan Bragg said the accident happened about 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and McBee.

From what witnesses said, Bragg said the suspect drove onto the sidewalk from a parking lot and hit the victim, dragging him a short distance.

When officers arrived, Bragg said the car had fled and the victim was found lying in the crosswalk. He said the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Bragg said police are investigating the case as an attempted murder. He said they do not have a vehicle description to release.
