ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Asheville police have charged a man with first-degree arson after a fire at an apartment complex in the city on Feb. 4.

Public Information Officer Kelly Klope said the initial investigation determined the fire originated where a sign had been attached to the door of an apartment at Aston Park Tower on South French Broad Avenue.

Klope said the Asheville-Buncombe Arson Task Force began investigating the fire after it was determined to possibly be arson.

Investigators identified the arson suspect as 33-year-old Derrick Barineau, of Asheville, according to Klope.

Klope said Barineau was arrested and is being held on $20,000 bond at the Buncombe County Detention Center.
