EASLEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Easley police said a driver faces a child endangerment charge, among other charges, after a chase ended in a wreck near the Pickens and Anderson county lines on April 3.

Police said they started chasing the driver near the West End School on Highway 135 after the car did not stop for an officer attempting to pull him over.

The vehicle pursuit ended when the car crashed into a guardrail on Old Easley Bridge Road near Old Pendleton Road, police said.

They said the driver then fled on foot, leaving a woman and child in the car.

Police searched in a wooded area near the wreck with K-9 teams, but called the search off just after 10 p.m.

On April 7, 21-year-old Shaquille Lay, of Liberty, had a bond hearing on the charges of failure to stop for blue lights, child endangerment and driving left of center.

The judge granted Lay a $10,000 bond for failing to stop and child endangerment. He was taken to Liberty where he also faced charges.

After he was released, Lay spoke with FOX Carolina and said he did not want to go back to jail, so he was trying to outrun police and believed he would have been pulled over no matter what.
