HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A major partnership between local governments, colleges and the hospital system will expand both healthcare and higher education in Henderson County.

The Henderson County Council and Hendersonville City Councils approved "Project Touchdown" unanimously Friday morning.

The project will create a new campus close to Pardee Hospital in the city limits of Hendersonville, providing an educational building for the healthcare sciences through a partnership between Blue Ridge Community College, Wingate University, the Henderson County Hospital Corporation, Henderson County and the city of Hendersonville.

As part of the project, the city has a contract on the property at 747 Sixth Ave. West where plans are to build a 60,000-square-foot building that will house all of Wingate's existing Hendersonville‐based programs, BRCC's allied health programs and additional programs and services for the hospital.

BRCC will also move its allied health-ed programs, which include Associate Degree Nursing, Surgical Technology degree and D diploma, Nurse Aide I and II certification and Phlebotomy certification programs.
