ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Anderson County deputies said a suspect who allegedly assaulted and robbed a woman of her purse in a Bi-Lo parking lot was arrested.

Lt. Sheila Cole with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office said Clifton Staley, 51, was arrested after a short manhunt and foot chase Saturday night.

Cole said the crime happened around 8:55 p.m. Saturday as the victim was leaving the Bi-Lo store located at 2901 South Main St.

According to Cole, Staley approached the victim and demanded her purse, a struggle ensued and the woman was knocked to the ground. She said Staley grabbed the purse and took off running.

Deputies were able to get a description of Staley, which included a blue baseball cap, and they searched the wooded area behind the store, Cole said. She said as they were about to call the search off, deputies spotted the cap and then spotted Staley.

He took off running but deputies were able to catch him and arrest him, Cole said. Staley was charged with strong arm robbery.

The victim only suffered some abrasions and her purse and cash were returned, Cole said.
