Heavy rain drenches north Georgia, cancels Masters practice round

AUGUSTA, GA (AP) -

Heavy rain drenched much of north Georgia, practice round play at Augusta National was suspended because of bad weather.

The Masters tournament is being played in Augusta this week. A notification on the Masters website Monday morning said players were asked to clear the grounds and take shelter due to severe weather.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City issued flash flood warnings for a handful of counties through 1:15 p.m.

Rain was expected to continue for much of the day.

To the west, in central Alabama, people had to be evacuated from a mobile home park and rescued from their vehicles because of flooding.

Georgia Power reported that about 1,900 of its customers were without power at 11:15 a.m.
