SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Simpsonville police are searching for the man they said assaulted and robbed a woman in the parking lot of a Publix grocery store.

According to police, the woman was walking through the Fairview Road parking lot when a man ran up, pushed her to the ground and stole her purse at about 11 p.m. Sunday.

The man, whose face was covered with a bandana and was dressed in black, took off running toward the Ace Hardware store, police said. They said he was able to get away with some cash and jewelry.

Police said the woman was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.

FOX Carolina spoke with the woman, Jenny Boyko, who said it felt like two bricks being thrown at her back when she was shoved to the ground.

She said she stopped at the store to pick up a snack on her way to meet a friend, but when she realized the store was closed, as she walked back to her car she was attacked.

Boyko said she realized the man was trying to take her purse, and while she first tried to hold onto it, she let go when he started kicking her side.

"I was struggling, he was having a hard time. So that's when he started to kick me… in my side," Boyko said.

She said she was screaming but there was no one around that heard her, so she ran to the nearby Spinx gas station and called 911.

"I just want to warn everyone, be careful, I don't want this to happen to anybody else," she said.

Police said they are asking for surveillance video from nearby businesses to see if a car was caught on camera driving by.

Anyone with information on the strong arm robbery is asked to call the Simpsonville Police Investigation Division at 864-967-9536.
