FLETCHER, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A Hendersonville man has been charged after police pulled him over for allegedly hauling a stolen excavator from the site of the new Fletcher Town Hall.

Fletcher police said at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, an officer saw the pickup hauling the trailer with the excavator leaving the site on Old Fanning Bridge Road.

Due to the lack of construction workers at the site and the time of day, an officer conducted a traffic stop on the truck, according to the police department.

Police said they determined the excavator had just been stolen.

Police arrested and charged the driver, 28-year-old Michael Gordon, with one count of felony larceny and felony conspiracy.

His bond was set at $14,000.

The $72,000 excavator was being rented by the town for the work being done at the site.
