ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A former employee at a Holiday Inn Express in Anderson pleaded guilty and was sentenced for robbing it at knifepoint in July 2013.

Timothy James Edwards was sentenced to 17 years in prison on search charges of kidnapping and armed robbery to be served concurrently, according to the Tenth Circuit Solicitor's Office.

Edwards pleaded guilty after two days of testimony during the trial where he failed to appear, according to the solicitor's office.

On Tuesday, Edwards was apprehended and pleaded guilty on Wednesday morning.

Judge Eugene Griffith sentenced him to 17 years for the robbery at the Holiday Inn Express at Interstate 85 in Anderson.

"Law enforcement should be commended for their efforts in tracking this defendant down so he could face justice in the courtroom," said Solicitor Chrissy Adams. "We appreciate the jury's time and patience during this trial that ended in a guilty plea and we are very pleased with Judge Griffith's sentence."

The solicitor said Edwards went into the hotel armed with a knife and forced the clerk to the ground and took money from the drawer.

Edwards was identified by surveillance cameras in the hotel.

The solicitor said he then confessed to the crime in a video statement.
