PIEDMONT, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Troopers said a person was killed in a wreck involving a moped and a truck on Old Williamston Road in Piedmont on Wednesday night.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said it happened on Old Williamston Road near Timms Road at around 8:30 p.m.

Troopers said the moped driver was heading south along Old Williamston Road, attempted to turn left onto a private drive and hit a northbound pickup.

The coroner identified the moped driver killed as 42-year-old James Scott McWhite, of Piedmont.

McWhite's address is listed as the home he was turning into.

McWhite was pronounced dead on the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

But according to McWhite's sister, the accident did not happen like officials said.

Paula Fulghum said her brother was not turning when he was hit by truck. She also said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. She said she went back out to the scene Thursday and found the broken helmet and face guard yards away.

She said she hopes authorities will look into the wreck more closely.

Troopers said the driver of the pickup was not injured.
