GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

School district officials said Cherrydale Elementary School was evacuated Thursday morning after an employee found a suspicious package.

Greenville County Schools spokesman Oby Lyles said the plant engineer was doing a daily check of the building and found a suspicious package on the loading dock.

Lyles said students and staff were evacuated while deputies and the fire department were called to investigate.

He said the building and grounds were searched for any other packages and none packages were found.

Students and staff would remain outside the school until the package was removed by deputies, Lyles said. According to FOX Carolina's crew at the school, the scene was cleared and students were let back inside by 11:45 a.m.

Deputies sent their Hazardous Device Unit and after bomb technicians assessed the threat risk, they determined the item want not a threat to the school or local community. Forensics is processing the package for latent prints.
