GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A 24-year-old man was sentenced on Tuesday for robbing a teacher as she arrived at a Greenville County school in September of 2013, the solicitor's office announced.

Solicitor Walt Wilkins said Sergio Latimer pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections by Judge Edward Miller.

On Sept. 9, 2013, Latimer robbed a teacher as she arrived to work at the Sterling School in Greenville County, Wilkins said.

As the teacher walked up to the backdoor of the school, Latimer grabbed her arm and told her twice to, "give me your purse, or I will kill you," according to Wilkins.

She gave him her wallet and then he fled on foot.

The robbery was caught on surveillance cameras at the school and released to the media shortly after the incident by police trying to identify the robber.

Latimer was identified a few days later by officers serving warrants at his home for another incident.

Wilkins said Latimer had a 2013 conviction for purse snatching.
