GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Coroner's office has released the identity of the man killed in a crash along Poinsett Highway that happened Saturday night.

Coroner Parks Evans said Sherman Dye, 69, of Greenville died after his car ran off-the road, struck a metal guard rail, and dropped down into a creek near the corner of Poinsett Highway and Langston Dr.

Evans said the top of the vehicle came to rest beneath the water.

By the team Greenville County deputies arrived, which Evans said was less than a minute after the crash, and were able to pull Dye from the car, Evans said Dye was already dead.

Evans said a medical event may have caused the crash and hopes an autopsy scheduled for Monday will provide an exact cause of death.
