ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office and the Anderson County Coroner's Office are investigating a possible home invasion in which the home owner shot and killed the suspected prowler.

Deputies said they were called to a home on Greenland Road in Anderson in reference to a prowler just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Before deputies arrived, the person living at the home called back and said he had shot the prowler.

At the scene, arriving deputies said they found a man inside the residence with a gunshot wound and called EMS.

The man was taken to the hospital where he later died, deputies said.

Deputy Coroner Don McCown said the victim was identified as Leandus Pickens, 28, from Columbia. Pickens died from a gunshot wound to the chest, McCown said.

McCown said Pickens and the home owner knew each other.

Deputies said no charges had been filed but that the investigation was ongoing.
