SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police officers in Spartanburg said a man was charged after punching an arresting officer.

Officers said Anthony Robinson, 25, stopped by to visit his child at an apartment on Princeton Street on Saturday night.

When the child's mother and grandmother asked him to leave, they told officers that Robinson refused, which prompted them to call police.

Officers arrived and said they witnessed Robinson curse at the women and refuse to leave.

When officers attempted to remove him from the apartment, Robinson braced himself against the door, and when one of the officers attempted to grab his arm, reports said Robinson punched the officer with a closed fist.

Both officers at the scene say they then wrestled Robinson to the ground and placed him in custody.

As they were forcing Robinson out of the apartment, officers said the man continued to scream obscenities at them and the residents.

Robinson was charged with assaulting an officer, public disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

He's currently being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center on a $2,800 bond.
