CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Clemson quarterback Chad Kelly was dismissed from the team on Monday, coach Dabo Swinney announced.

"I have dismissed Chad Kelly for conduct detrimental to our program," Swinney said in a press release.

"He has had a pattern of behavior that is not consistent with the values of our program. I hope he will mature and grow from this and become the man and player I know he can be. I wish him nothing but the best in the future academically and athletically," Swinney said.

Kelly was involved in a verbal altercation with coaches at the spring game over the weekend.

Kelly played five games in 2013 for the Tigers and was in a three-way competition for the starting quarterback position in 2014 against Cole Stoudt and freshman Deshaun Watson.
