ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The SWAT team was brought in to get a man to leave an Anderson apartment peacefully Tuesday morning after deputies said he threatened to hurt his family and was shot by his son.

Dispatchers said deputies were called to the North Lake Condos on North Lake Drive just after 4 a.m.

According Capt. Darrell Hill with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, a man got into a domestic altercation with his wife and family, then made threats while armed with a weapon. Hill said the man was drunk, and there were multiple weapons inside the home.

At one point, the man's son was able to get a gun, shots were fired and a bullet grazed the man's ear, according to Hill. He said the family was able to get out safely, but the man barricaded himself inside.

Hill said additional shots were fired from within the condo, so the SWAT team was called in to negotiate with the man. Hill said they were able to get him out with incident about 5:20 a.m., and he was taken to the hospital.

Lt. Sheila Cole identified the man as Randall Fowler Sr., 45, and he was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

Fowler's 24-year-old son, Randall Fowler Jr., said he was one the who fired the shot in defense of his family, not his younger brother and the family would like to move on from what happened Tuesday.

Fowler Sr. was denied bond before an Anderson County judge Wednesday morning.
