Deputies: Roebuck man set fire to his home by leaving something on stove

A Roebuck man is accused of setting his mobile home on fire after deputies said his story did not add up.

Spartanburg County deputies were called in to assist in the fire investigation Monday.

The fire was first reported at the home on Cherry Drive about 5:20 a.m.

A man who lived at the home as at the scene when firefighters arrived. Deputies said fire damaged the inside of the home particularly in the kitchen area.

After further investigation and talking with the victim, deputies said they determined the man placed "something" on the stove, turned it on and walked away - setting fire to the home. Deputies said during the investigation, the man gave several inconsistent statements.

The man, identified as 27-year-old Ryan Collins, was arrested and charged with third-degree arson. Deputies did not give a motive behind the fire.

According to deputies, Collins would not tell investigators what he left on the stove but once the fire was out, the stove was completely consumed the in blaze.
