Police: Boy, 12, steals BB gun then shoots at car

UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Union police said a 12-year-old boy stole a BB gun from a Dollar General store and then fired shots at passing cars.

According to police, they were called to 408 N. Duncan Bypass after a man reported his car had been struck by something.

The man told police he was driving through the parking lot when he heard something his car.

The man stopped to talk to the boy, who dumped the gun in a trash can and walked away, according to police.

According to the police report, they asked the boy where he got the gun and he said he stole it from the store. The report stated the store confirmed the theft and wanted the boy charged.

Police arrested the boy, charging him with shoplifting, discharging a firearm in the city limits and malicious damage. According to police, the bullet chipped the car's front window.
