CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man has been charged after police said he led officers on a chase that ended in a wreck in Clemson over the weekend.

Chief Jimmy Dixon said 46-year-old Frederick Hamilton led officers on a chase after he was measured going 74 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Hamilton attempted to flee from Clemson police when they turned on their blue lights and sirens, according to Dixon.

The driver continued on Highway 76 toward Anderson, where he collided with other vehicles near Highway 187, Dixon said.

He said multiple victims had to be brought to the hospital, including Hamilton.

According to Dixon, prior to the chase, Hamilton had collided with another vehicle on Highway 76.

Clemson police have charged Hamilton with failure to stop for blue lights. Highway Patrol have charged him with driving under the influence.

He is being held at the Clemson City Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
