ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said four people were sent to the hospital after a wreck on Interstate 85 north in Anderson County on Wednesday night.

Troopers said the collision happened at 7:48 p.m. near mile marker 29, when an SUV, carrying two passengers, ran into the back of a fire truck. Troopers said the fire engine was parked on the side of the highway when the accident occurred.

When emergency crews arrived to the scene, troopers said they found the driver of the SUV entrapped inside the vehicle. Crews were able to get him out, and he was flown to the Greenville Memorial Hospital.

The passenger of that car, along with two others in the fire truck, were also taken to the hospital, troopers said. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Witnesses reported traffic was at a complete standstill for several miles in the northbound lanes. All lanes did reopen just after 9 p.m.

It is unknown if any charges will be filed in this case.
