Police said a wanted Spartanburg teen tried to run from them, jumping into a creek filled with sewage and into the drainage pipe before finally being caught by officers.

Spartanburg police said they were initially called to the Oakview Apartments on Howard Street about 5:40 p.m. about a group loitering.

While approaching, officers said they saw one man walk off then take off running down Aiden Street. Police said the man jumped into the sewage-filled creek and into a connecting drainage pipe.

As police surrounded the area looking for where the man may surface, they said they saw him climb up out of a manhole and arrested him.

He took off running again, but officers were able to catch him, police said. When they looked his name up in the system, police said he was wanted on a trespassing charge for the apartment complex and another for resisting arrest by the sheriff's office.

The man, 19-year-old Jamal Rios, was arrested and charged with loitering drug activity, third-degree trespassing and breaking arrest in addition to his outstanding warrants.
