SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police said a man has been arrested for crashing into a U.S. Postal Service truck on the side of the road and then driving away from the scene.

The USPS truck had broken down on the side of John B. White Senior Boulevard near Crescent Avenue on Saturday afternoon when a red F-150 plowed into the truck and then continued driving, according to reports.

Police said the driver of the truck was outside the vehicle and was not hurt.

A witness was able to identify the suspect and direct officers to his address, according to reports.

Police said they found the F-150 registered to Donnie McMahan with visible front end damage parked down the street from his home on California Boulevard.

When police questioned McMahan, they said he initially told them the truck had been stolen and then changed his story, saying that he had let a neighbor borrow the vehicle, but refused to provide a name.

Officers said McMahan was taken into custody and charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving under suspension.
