Police: Man shot in Asheville park, gunman arrested

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Police said they have the accused gunman in custody after a man was shot at an Asheville park Sunday.

Asheville police said the victim was shot at Walton St. Park about 4:45 p.m. April 20 and taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

A witness helped take the victim to the hospital and police said warrants were issued for the shooter.

Police identified the suspect as Dwayne Purcell, 33, of Asheville and filed charges of assault with a dangerous weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of firearm by felon.

About 6:30 a.m. Monday, police said Purcell was in custody.

No other details about the shooting have been released.
