SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County deputies said they hope someone can identify a robber armed with a brick who claimed to have a gun in a smash-and-grab style holdup on Tuesday.

Deputies said about 1:25 a.m. on April 15, a clerk at the Circle K on East Blackstock Road reported a man threw a brick through the back door then ran toward the register.

The clerk was in the back and once the robber saw her, deputies said he claimed to have a gun and told her to open the register.

Then he told her to open the safe but as she went to unlock it, she told deputies something spooked him because he took off running back through the door.

The robber was able to get away with about $50 and several packs of Newport cigarettes, deputies said. The clerk told deputies he took off through the rear of the parking lot into the next-door lot but deputies did not find him in the area.

The thief was described as 5'7" tall and was wearing a blue hoodie, dirty blue jeans, brown boots, and a black do-rag over his face, deputies said. The clerk told investigators she was able to see he had a beard.

Anyone with information on the robber's identify or the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
