WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Oconee County deputies have charged a Townville man after they said they found a "shake-and-bake" meth lab in his car during a traffic stop.

Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt said deputies performed a traffic stop on the car near Fair Play that had an altered year sticker on the tag late Sunday night.

Watt said the driver, 39-year-old Eric Whitten, appeared to be nervous.

After asking Whitten for his license, insurance and registration, a deputy noticed the "shake-and-bake" meth lab visible on the backseat floorboard, according to Watt.

A narcotics officer was called to the scene and confirmed it was a meth lab, Watt said.

Watt said Whitten has been charged with possessing "known chemicals, equipment, and manufacturing apparatus used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine."
