ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

According to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, one person was taken to the hospital after what may have been an attempted robbery Monday night.

The sheriff's office said a 911 call was made to dispatch at 10:51 p.m. Monday, but the caller hung up. A second call came in a minute later about gunshots in the Newport Commons area on Simpson Road, deputies said.

Deputies said a male victim was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Two suspects approached the victim, demanding money and jewelry but the victim tried to leave the scene and was shot once, deputies said.

According to witnesses, the suspects fled in a vehicle but no description was released.

The Anderson County Sheriff's office is investigating and no other details have been released.
