GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Ninety veterans will take to the skies to travel to Washington, DC, from the Upstate Tuesday as part of the 12th Honor Flight.

Honor Flight Upstate South Carolina will take 45 World War II and 45 Korean War veterans with the assistance of volunteers, guardians, doctors and nurses to the nation's capital for the day to tour their respective war memorials in addition to viewing the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery.

As a tribute to their service during the historic wars, the veterans will travel to and from Greenvillle-Spartanburg International Airport amid fanfare and orchestral accompaniment. The public is welcome to welcome the veterans' return Tuesday night, which is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the airport's north ramp, which is located off of Highway 101 at Gateway Drive.

The veterans have never had the chance to see the memorials due to physical or financial limitation, and the funds are raised for their free trips by the nonprofit organization.

Honor Flight Upstate is hosting a fundraising event Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Thomas Creek Brewery on Piedmont Highway. The event costs $25 per person and features food, beer and live music.
