Anderson man sentenced in attack on mother over dog

ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Anderson man was sentenced on Tuesday for a brutal attack on his mother in 2013, the 10th Circuit Solicitor's Office announced.

Terrance Burdette pleaded guilty to the charges of first-degree assault and battery. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Judge Cordell Maddox.

On June 27, Burdette attacked his 67-year-old mother during an argument over a dog at their Anderson County home, according to the solicitor's office.

Solicitor Chrissy Adams said Burdette began strangling his mother and also pointed a handgun at her head and threatened to kill her.

Adams said the whole incident was caught on a home security camera which the parents installed after previous incidents with Burdette.

"This case reminds us that sometimes the greatest danger we face does not come from strangers on the street but from those we love," stated Adams in a press release.

"As a community, we need to learn to recognize the signs of domestic abuse in all age groups and report the behavior to the proper authorities. Fortunately, this mother survived the abuse from her son. With Terrance Joshua Burdette in prison for 10 years, his mother and father can now feel safe in their home," Adams said.
