CENTRAL, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Pickens County deputies said a man has died after a shooting on Moser Trail on Thursday night.
Chief Deputy Creed Hashe said the victim was shot in the stomach around 8 p.m. during an argument in the yard of a home. He later died of his injuries, several hours after the altercation.
Deputies have arrested Benjamin Vinson, 53, of Central, in the case and charged him with murder and possession with a weapon during a violent crime Friday.
According to his arrest warrants, Vinson and the victim were involved in a fight when Vinson went down the road, shortly returned, getting a shotgun out of the trunk of his car. The warrant said he argued again then shot the victim.
Vinson's address is listed as the location where the shooting happened.
The 911 call that law enforcement received indicated that at least one person may have been armed at the scene at the time of the shooting, and several other people were present, deputies said.
Hashe said a shotgun was recovered at the scene and is believed to have been used in the incident.
Pickens County Coroner identified the victim as John Chitwood, 27, of Central.
On Friday, Hashe said the arraignment hearing for Vinson was waived at the request of the public defender's office.
