ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man accused of leaving the scene of a fatal wreck in Piedmont faced a judge on Thursday.

James Hollingsworth, 27, was denied bond on the charges of driving under the influence involving a fatality, driving under suspension, possession of a stolen vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident involving death in connection with the wreck in early March.

On March 4, troopers said Hayley Gunter, 21, was killed in the single-car crash along Old Pelzer Road.

In court, troopers and the victim's family asked for no bond because they said Hollingsworth has a history of not showing up for court.

Hollingsworth was crying in court and apologized.

"I didn't just leave her there, like they think. I got run off the road by somebody who committed three murders the next day," Hollingsworth said.

Hollingsworth seems to be referring to Jared Williams, who is accused by Anderson County deputies of being the gunman in a triple homicide in Pelzer the day after the fatal wreck.
