Operation 'Spring Tiger' nets 47 charges in Clemson drug bust

PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies have spent months investigating illegal drug activity in Clemson, leading to 16 people being charged, 12 who have been arrested and 4 who are still at large.

Several law enforcement agencies were involved in the investigation, conducting undercover drug buys from several suspects since January, according to Pickens County Sheriff Rick Clark.

Clark said 42 of the 47 charges are felonies and six suspects arrested are Clemson University students as part of "Operation Spring Tiger."

He said the ongoing battle to fight drug abuse in the area concentrated on southern Clemson, not specific to the university and city, but all surrounding areas where they see problems.

Clark said there are a mix of drugs seized, including pharmaceuticals and marijuana. He said the new forms of marijuana and drugs are "so much more dangerous and addictive" than decades ago.

Many of the suspects were arrested in the past 24 hours, deputies said. Clark said they served search and arrest warrants on Thursday.

Assisting the Pickens County Sheriff's Office in the investigation was the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Oconee County Sheriff's Office, Clemson University Police Department, Clemson City Police Department and The Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
