Police: Bomb squad confirms grenade found in Spartanburg home

GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The bomb squad was called to a home in Spartanburg on Friday after a family found what they thought was a grenade.

Lt. Regina Nowak with Spartanburg Public Safety said the homeowner and family members were cleaning out a home when they found the object inside a box.

Nowak said the bomb squad respond to the home on Pinedale Court just after noon and confirmed the object they had found was a live grenade.

Bomb squad technicians took the grenade from the scene to dispose of it, according to reports. 

According to incident reports, the home had been vacant for some time and the homeowner was in the process of cleaning and preparing the house for sale when the explosive was discovered.

There's no word on how the grenade ended up inside the home.
