GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A special day is in store for children who will visit the Greenville Zoo on Saturday during the annual Princess and Pirate: Save the Frogs Day.

The day's events feature a princess and pirate-themed party with a portion of the proceeds going toward conservation efforts for amphibians, according to zoo officials.

Beginning at 10 a.m., zoo visitors can enjoy a frog-themed arts and crafts station, educational exhibits and games presented by the FrogWatch Researchers of the Greenville Zoo.

There will also be plenty of costumed characters on hand, and zoo officials said children who come dressed in their favorite princess and pirate costumes will received half-priced admission with a paid adult admission.

Zoo officials said the event offers children a fun day of make believe and some important knowledge about the diminishing frog population.

"Amphibians throughout the world are decreasing in numbers at an alarming rate," said Dr. Heather Miller, Deputy Administrator for Animal Health at the Greenville Zoo. "This event gives us an opportunity to educate the public about these fragile creatures and the importance of saving valuable frog habitats."

The frog-themed fun will last until 2 p.m. Saturday.
