GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Spartanburg County coroner has identified two people he said were killed when a car ran off the road and struck a tree just outside of Greer late Saturday night.

Troopers with the SC Highway Patrol said a 1992 Nissan Sentra was traveling south on Abner Creek Road around 11:42 p.m. when the driver lost control in a curve, ran off the left side of the road, and into a tree.

Troopers said the male driver and a female passenger in the front seat were found dead in the vehicle when rescue crews arrived.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the victims as Randy Zumwalt, 43, and Debbie Christopher, 51.

Zumwalt and Christopher both succumbed to internal injuries and Clevenger said Christopher also suffered closed head trauma.

A female passenger in the back seat survived and was taken to the hospital, according to troopers. Troopers said none of the crash victims were wearing seat belts.

The crash remains under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol. Clevenger said toxicology results are pending in the case.
