FAIR PLAY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Oconee County dispatchers said firefighters were called to a truck stop off of Interstate 85 after an explosion was reported.

Dispatchers said it was reported at Bubba's Truck Stop off of exit 4, in the restaurant area of the truck stop on Herring Road about 11 a.m.

Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King said the fire started with a propane explosion in the kitchen while workers were prepping food.

He said the fire spread into the dining room, where there were customers but everyone was able to be evacuated. King said one person was taken to AnMed Health with injuries.

King said it took Oconee and Anderson County firefighters a significant effort to fight the fire due to grease and propane in the kitchen of the Bootland Diner, which is located inside the truck stop.

FOX Carolina spoke with the owner of Bubba's, who said his granddaughter heard a pop from the gas line right before the explosion.

He said she will be flown from AnMed to the Augusta Burn Center with at least burns on her arms and everyone else has been accounted for after the explosion. He said Sunday was her 21st birthday.

According to Ken Porter with Fort Hill Natural Gas Company, they were called to the scene because it was initially reported as a natural gas explosion but once crews arrived they determined it was propane-related.

Anderson County dispatchers said Townville and Double Springs fire departments were called to help at the scene and when they arrived they reported a blaze.
