ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Anderson County 17-year-old is in custody after deputies said he shot a man he was trying to rob as the victim tried to run away.

Anderson County deputies said a 911 call was made to dispatch at 10:51 p.m. on April 21, but the caller hung up. A second call came in a minute later about gunshots in the Newport Commons area on Simpson Road, deputies said.

Two suspects approached the victim, demanding money and jewelry but the victim tried to leave, said Lt. Sheila Cole with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies later identified one of the suspects as Damascus Moore-Floyd, of Anderson, saying he and the other suspect approached the victim and a friend, demanding money and the victim's necklace. The victim took off running, but Moore-Floyd chased after him and shot him in the back, according to Cole.

According to the original deputy's report, when officers arrived the victim was conscious and told them what happened. He was taken to the hospital but no additional information has been released.

Moore-Floyd was arrested and charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime and is at the Anderson County Detention Center on $110,000 bond. The second suspect has not yet been identified or located.

Deputies ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
