GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenwood police have charged a man with manslaughter after a fight in the middle of the street left one man dead.

According to the incident report, 30-year-old Travis Johnson was involved in an altercation with his sister's ex-boyfriend on East Cambridge Avenue at Grace Street on April 17.

Police received server al 911 calls about the fight in the middle of the street.

When they arrived they found a man lying unconscious in the road and another man sitting on the curb next to him, the report said.

Officers were able to get the man to momentarily regain consciousness, but was unconscious when he was transported to Self Hospital.

Johnson told officers the man was previously in a relationship with his sister and had recently been calling her and threatening her.

He said he was at his sister's house when he saw the man drive down the street. Johnson said the ex-boyfriend lived in Seneca and had no reason to be in Greenwood.

According to the report, Johnson told officers he got into his vehicle and followed the man until they reached a red light at Grace Street and Cambridge Avenue.

Johnson said they both exited their cars and the man swung at him three times, but missed.

The report said Johnson then struck the victim about his head with a closed fist. The man then collapsed and he sat down next to him.

Johnson told officers he was acting in self-defense.

He was arrested on the charge of assault and battery, which was later upgraded to manslaughter after the man died.
