SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A woman did not survive after she was found shot several times along a Spartanburg County road Wednesday morning and deputies said a suspect was in custody.

Dispatch said they received a call just before 7 a.m. about a shooting.

According to the incident report, a woman called 911 when she heard three gunshots, then saw a minivan speed off. Spartanburg County deputies said they arrived to find the victim with three gunshot wounds to her stomach, lying in the roadway.

The victim identified the accused shooter as her husband, deputies said. They said he was also taken to the hospital by a family member after having a panic attack and taken into custody, deputies said.

The coroner said the victim, identified as 55-year-old Mariann Eileen O'Shields, died at the hospital due to complications from the gunshot wounds.

Deputies said O'Shields was shot leaving a victim's shelter in the county.

Deputies charged her husband Robert O'Shields Sr., 52, with murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and a violation of an order of protection.

On Tuesday, deputies said Mariann O'Shields filed a report with that her husband was violating the conditions of her protection order by having communication with her that didn't relate to their daughter, having spoken to her on two occasions when they exchanged custody at the sheriff's office.

Deputies do not know how he found her location.

Due to the domestic violence nature of the case, deputies have asked the location where the woman was shot to not be reported though it was initially released.
