Day of Prayer events held across Upstate

Thursday is the National Day of Prayer, and events across the Upstate will gather people of many different faiths together for the celebration.

At 7:30 a.m., the Year of Altruism and Interfaith Forum of Upstate SC are hosting the National Day of Prayer Community Service and Breakfast, which will feature prayer, worship, praise and music at the Kroc Center in Greenville. The event is free and open to the public, but guests are asked to register online here. The Kroc Center is located at 424 Westfield St.

At 11:40 a.m., music will prelude the National Day of Prayer event in downtown Greenville. Upstate Alive and Christian leaders of several churches and denominations will gather at the ONE Plaza along Main Street, with prayer scheduled to start at noon.

At noon in Greer, Covenant United Methodist Church is hosting a short service to pray for the government, Christ's church, the military, families, education, media and business in the chapel located at 1310 Old Spartanburg Road.

Earle Street Baptist Church in Greenville is encouraging people to pray for America for this year's event and has its prayer room open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church, located at 225 West Earle St.

In Columbia, the a National Day Of Prayer event will be held at the State House at noon until 1 p.m.

Then on Friday, the Poor Clare Nuns will be hosting an Interfaith Prayer Service at their monastery in Travelers Rest in partnership with the Greenville Interfaith Forum and the Year of Altruism. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with a shared breakfast followed by prayer and reflection. Online reservations are encouraged, click here to sign up. The monastery is located at 37 McCauley Road.
