Local teen battling leukemia surprised with truck

HOLLAND, OH (Toledo News Now) -

19-year-old Mitch Roeser thought his truck was going into the shop for new break sensors, but when he picked it up Wednesday, he found his local car shop have given it a much bigger, tougher upgrade.

"We wanted to do something right for the kid," said Sean Bell of Diversified Truck, Auto and Off-Road.  "He seems like a great person."

Roeser is battling leukemia, and when the guys at Diversified Truck in Holland found out, they jumped in to give him something to smile about.

"I heard it first," said Roeser.  "Then I saw this big truck come out and my jaw dropped."

"He had no clue of anything going on," said Mitch's father Bob Roeser.

Thousands of dollars in parts and labor were donated to the truck.

"Bob told me that Mitch looked him in the eyes and said ‘Dad, I want a truck that looks just as tough as all those other leukemia patients are'," said Bell.

Surrounded by friends and family Wednesday, Mitch got that leukemia-tough truck.

"I wanted to show appreciation to all cancer patients and have a truck be a symbol of toughness," said Mitch.  "I couldn't be more happy with it."

The family is calling it the ‘Tougher than Cancer' truck, and they say they can't thank those who donated time and money to this project enough.
