Poor air quality due to windy conditions

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Gusty winds blowing east to west this morning are kicking dust and dirt from the open desert into the air.  The resulting haziness can be seen from just about anywhere in Tucson and many other parts of Southeast Arizona.

Pima County has issued an Air Quality Advisory. Health officials are warning people who have breathing problems, such as asthma, to stay inside. Those with allergies will also feel increased impacts today. Urgent Care Centers are busy with more people stopping in because of breathing issues.

For those driving in the area today, it will likely look a lot like the drive home on Wednesday afternoon, when the dust was so thick the Catalina and Rincon mountains were difficult to see.

Arizona Department of Transportation is warning drivers about possible dangerous conditions on the road because of the wind gusts. Gusts would push cars, trucks, and tractor trailers into adjacent lanes on highways. Blowing dust could also reduce visibility in some areas.
