The Haywood County Sheriff's Office said three people have been arrested in connection with the theft of prescription medication from an elderly woman.

Deputies said officers with the Unified Narcotics Investigative Team received information that liquid morphine being prescribed to the woman was being stolen from her home on Walnut Trail.

Deputies said the morphine was prescribed for end-of-life care.

According to the sheriff's office, known drug users and dealers had been frequenting and staying at the home.

The task force conducted a welfare check on the woman where they seized drug paraphernalia and five guns.

Barnett has been charged with felony exploitation of an elder or disabled adult and larceny and possession of stolen property.

Szostak has been charged with five counts of possession of firearm by felon and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Clubb has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
