BOILING SPRINGS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County deputies said the father of two children found alone in Boiling Springs on Friday has been charged.

Deputies said the children, ages 4 and 5, were lost and located by a neighbor near Peachtree Road.

According to deputies, a couple had been in an argument and the wife left walking. The husband and two children went to find her but didn't and returned home, deputies said.

Then at one point, the children left the home to find their mom on their own when the neighbor saw them, deputies said.

They said the woman was located and interviewed by police.

The children's step-father, 25-year-old Roger Schultz, was later charged with his second offense of criminal domestic violence and unlawful child neglect, according to warrants.

Warrants said Schultz punched the woman in the face, kicked her and pushed her down.

Deputies said after they located and interviewed the children's mother they decided to not place them into protective custody.

Deputies said she was attempting to get help from the domestic violence situation.
