GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

As crowds gathered to watch thousands of yellow rubber ducks cascade over the falls during the 10th anniversary Reedy River Duck Derby in downtown Greenville on Saturday, one family noticed some live ducklings in peril and jumped into action.

Candie Walton said she and her husband and daughter were on the riverbank watching the waterfall when they saw something unexpected.

"Two ducklings got separated from their family and were washed down the waterfall," Walton said.

That's when Walton said her husband and their 12-year-old daughter ran toward the falls and jumped in the water to rescue the baby birds.

"Then they carried the babies back upriver, and my daughter reunited them with their duck family," Walton said. "She received a huge round of applause.

The ducklings weren't hurt, and Walton said they were safely out of the way when the rubber ducks later sailed toward the waterfall.

Proceeds from the Duck Derby will benefit local charities via the Greenville Rotary Club.
